Core Teacher Responsibilities:
Core teachers are responsible for the day-to day delivery of the educational program, particularly
- Being highly qualified, as outlined by federal No Child Left Behind legislations, in the field or grade level of education in which you teach
- Being highly qualified in the International Baccalaureate programs appropriate to the grade(s) taught by pursuing training provided by the School
- Non-English speaking teachers must become bilingual and be able to work effectively in a multiethnic setting. Must have knowledge of literacy strategies in the native language, compley with the national standards for second language acquisition as outlined by NATFL, and be able to teach mathematics, and IB units (science/social studies) at the elementary level, or have complete knowledge and teacher training of the core subject(s) at the middle school level.
- Integrated and trans-curriculum lesson planning in collaboration with your teaching team. meeting daily and/or weekly for reporting student progress based on data, curriculum evaluation and design, teaching strategies, preparation of materials, and other issues that impact lesson plans and student achievement.
- Creating a positive and effective school and classroom environment that supports the School's philosophy and goals and meets students' individual needs, supporting differentiated learning. This also includes creating routines, rituals and celebrations that support a sense of class and school community as well as student self-esteem and increasing independence/self sufficiency.
- Carrying out daily formal or informal assessments of student achievement via various instruments, observation check lists, rubrics, testing tools, and student portfolios, and documenting student achievement through these instruments. Student self-assessment and opportunities for reflection of the day's learning is integral to this process.
- Integrating the assessment to design appropriate lesson planning and effective teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Participating in ongoing staff development that supports the curriculum and differentiated instruction, as well as the inquiry approach as outlined in the IBO programs; pursuing advanced studies, certifications, and/or endorsements in bilingual, cross-cultural and language diversity education.
- Supervising and supporting the paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. Offer recommendations, kudos, and informal assessments for their professional development. Communicate clearly, preferably in writing, what your expectations are.
- Maintaining accurate attendance and other student records, including report cards, permanent records, etc. Assess and report any special needs and/or services the student may require in a timely fashion. Follow the law in reporting immediately any suspected child abuse.
- Maintaining the highest level of student and colleague right -to-privacy guidelines (and refrain from any form of gossip or backbiting). Maintain strict confidentiality of your personal and others private (personal) or personnel information. Be a role model of respectful behavior at all times.
- Carrying out student placement assessments before the academic year commences. Meeting and interviewing students and parents. Assisting in the best placement of all students.
- Working closely with the administration and maintaining excellent communication with parents and supporting public relations.
- Attending school activities and supporting the school community. Assisting whenever possible in school events and fund raising projects.
- Manifesting leadership in student's social and economic projects that support the School's goals of social and economic development, i.e., service opportunities and entrepreneurial projects.
- Being a positive role model for social responsibility, human empathy, fairness, justice, integrity, highly ethical behavior, loyalty and commitment
Specials Teachers Openings:
FT K-6 Music Teacher
Specials teachers are an integral part of GVA's programs, with art, music, drama, and technology. All specials teachers will meet regularly with teams to lesson plan for units of study so that the cross-curricular and integrated approach is effectively accomplished, while the national standards for the instruction of the special area and objectives for each of the enrichment areas are provided holistally to all students. The goal is for activities in the specialty areas to reinforce understanding and students' development of the core curriculum subjects and the units of study.
Music Teacher Responsibilities:
Teaching the knowledge and skills in the field of music that meet national standards and objectives, which includes instruction of instrumental and choral music to elementary and middle school students
- Developing instructional plans and organizing class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and working time
- Providing students with aesthetic concepts and appreciation for all forms of music, with an emphasis on multicultural world music
- Developing in students an appreciation for the history of music, classical music and teaching composers' styles within the context of the School's units of IB Study
- Meeting with teams and integrating the music program with the units of IB study.
