Core Teacher Responsibilities:

Highly Qualified teacherequirements for these positions include having a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, Pass PLACE/PRAXIS and/or Statement Of Elegibility(SOE) letter for Alternative Teacher Licensure.

- Must possess intermediate to advanced French, Spanish or Mandarin language skills

Core teachers are responsible for the day-to day delivery of the educational program, particularly

  • Be highly qualified, as outlined by federal No Child Left Behind legislations, in the field or grade level of education in which you teach
  • Non-English speaking teachers must become bilingual and be able to work effectively in a multiethnic setting. Must have knowledge of literacy strategies in the native language, compley with the national standards for second language acquisition as outlined by NATFL, and be able to teach mathematics, and IB units (science/social studies) at the elementary level, or have complete knowledge and teacher training of the core subject(s) at the middle school level.
  • Integrated and trans-curriculum lesson planning in collaboration with your teaching team. meeting daily and/or weekly for reporting student progress based on data, curriculum evaluation and design, teaching strategies, preparation of materials, and other issues that impact lesson plans and student achievement.
  • Creating a positive and effective school and classroom environment that supports the School's philosophy and goals and meets students' individual needs, supporting differentiated learning. This also includes creating routines, rituals and celebrations that support a sense of class and school community as well as student self-esteem and increasing independence/self sufficiency.
  • Carrying out daily formal or informal assessments of student achievement via various instruments, observation check lists, rubrics, testing tools, and student portfolios, and documenting student achievement through these instruments. Student self-assessment and opportunities for reflection of the day's learning is integral to this process.
  • Integrating the assessment to design appropriate lesson planning and effective teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Participating in ongoing staff development that supports the curriculum and differentiated instruction, as well as the hands on problem based immersion language approach; pursuing advanced studies, certifications, and/or endorsements in bilingual, cross-cultural and language diversity education.
  • Supervising and supporting the paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. Offer recommendations, kudos, and informal assessments for their professional development. Communicate clearly, preferably in writing, what your expectations are.
  • Maintaining accurate attendance and other student records, including report cards, permanent records, etc. Assess and report any special needs and/or services the student may require in a timely fashion. Follow the law in reporting immediately any suspected child abuse.
  • Maintaining the highest level of student and colleague right -to-privacy guidelines (and refrain from any form of gossip or backbiting). Maintain strict confidentiality of your personal and others private (personal) or personnel information. Be a role model of respectful behavior at all times.
  • Carrying out student placement assessments before the academic year commences. Meeting and interviewing students and parents. Assisting in the best placement of all students.
  • Working closely with the administration and maintaining excellent communication with parents and supporting public relations.
  • Attending school activities and supporting the school community. Assisting whenever possible in school events and fund raising projects.
  • Manifesting leadership in student's social and economic projects that support the School's goals of social and economic development, i.e., service opportunities and entrepreneurial projects.
  • Being a positive role model for social responsibility, human empathy, fairness, justice, integrity, highly ethical behavior, loyalty and commitment.

Instructional Assistants

Are you interested in becoming a certified teacher? You can work as an Instructional Assistant and work towards your teacher certification in our Alternative Teaher Licensing Program. Requirements are to have BA degree, and have received your SOE letter from CDE.

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a licensed secondary teacher and/or administrator, this position is responsible for monitoring and/or presenting and reinforcing skills with small groups of students or one-on-one, maintaining and updating student records and monitoring and recording students’ academic and behavioral progress. May also plan and present lessons, prepare instructional materials, monitor students in various non-classroom settings and/or assist in the administration of tests. Individuals in this position may be assigned to one or more classrooms or the in-house suspension classroom. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and update records of student progress, attendance, test scores and/or personal information. Input data and information into the computer system. Monitor students’ academic and behavioral progress and record appropriately.
  • May plan and present lessons to promote and supplement skills, concepts and strategies introduced in the classroom.
  • May prepare instructional materials for use in class or “pull-out” small groups. Duties may include word processing, proofreading, editing, copying, collating, binding and filing.
  • May secure supplies, materials and equipment and maintain order.
  • Attend job-related in-services, appropriate workshops and lectures and school in-services to enhance skills and improve professional growth.
  • May promote parent involvement through activities, events and personal contact.
  • May monitor students in various non-classroom settings as requested.
  • May substitute for fellow workers as needed and occasionally substitute temporarily for a classroom teacher.
  • May assist in the administration of tests by proctoring, scoring, recording results and/or inputting data into the computer.
  • May prepare instructional artwork and resources including displays, bulletin boards, charts and posters. Repair and catalog resources for school-wide use.
  • May perform Media Center and/or technology duties including supervising and instructing students in the Media Center computer lab; cataloging, ordering, filing and shelving books; initiating book budget and book fair; and/or assisting with PC software and hardware installation and troubleshooting.
  • May administer yearly CSAP and twice yearly MAP tests. Compile test materials and return them to appropriate agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Over 1 year and up to and including 2 years of experience in working with students in a school setting.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Oral communication, interpersonal, English language, English writing, math (appropriate to grade assigned), basic behavior management and decision making skills. Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Operating knowledge of personal computers and general office equipment may be required after hire. English language skills required. Oral and written fluency in second language may be preferred or required based on building assignment.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

This job is responsible for supervising the behavior and safety of students in various school settings. May act as a resource for parents and teachers by providing information regarding student’s well-being, behavior and/or progress.

Low exposure to self to bruises and cuts due to typical school setting accidents.

Spanish Teacher

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, evaluate and assign lessons for Spanish-speaking pupils in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and art in a classroom setting.
  • Utilize an adopted course of study, program guides, and a variety of other materials in developing lesson planning, and in the development of teaching outlines.
  • Pursue a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including instruction, demonstration, lecture, activity participation, and using specialized educational equipment, materials, and aids.
  • Prepare, develop and utilize a variety of instructional materials appropriate for the instructional level of pupils within a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate the history, background, and assessment of pupils in designing an educational program to meet specific individual educational needs.
  •  Provide individual and group instruction designed to enhance the pupils’ mental, social, and emotional growth.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior, utilizing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques, including behavior modification, reinforcement and other positive behavior shaping processes.
  •  Review, analyze, and evaluate academic and social growth, and record appropriate analyses and perceptions.
  • Prepare progress reports to parents and others concerning pupil academic and social growth.
  • Utilize knowledge of State Standards for progression and student advancement. 
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record the results of a variety of criterion referenced and standardized tests in evaluating pupil progress.
  • Counsel, confer, and communicate with parents, regarding pupil progress, and to interpret the educational program.
  • Assist and cooperate with school personnel in assessing pupil needs, in the development of alternative solutions to individual educational planning, and in the adapting of curriculum offerings to meet individual educational needs.
  • Plan, create, and maintain an effective learning environment through the utilization of functional and aesthetically attractive displays, exhibits, bulletin boards, and interest, learning, and activity centers.
  • Select appropriate educational supplies, materials, books, equipment, and learning aids.
  • Perform non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instruction development, student supervision, and advisory and consultation activities.
  • Identify and resolve problems resourcefully.
  • Knowledge and experience in immersion based teaching.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a closely related field, or the equivalent the foreign degree. 

EXPERIENCE:

2 years of professional teaching experience or 2 years of experience in the job offered.

Ability to speak, read and write English and Spanish languages.
