Global Village Academy will compete at this weekend's Dragon Boat races taking place at Sloan's Lake during the Dragon Boat Festival, July 30th and 31st. The team is made up of parents from both the Aurora and Northglenn campuses. The first race for the team will take place at approximately 12:15PM on Saturday. GVA BREAKS GROUND ON NEW AURORA CAMPUS!

JHL Construction and Slater Paul Architects have teamed up to design and build Phase I of the new GVA-Aurora Campus. The master plan includes a second phase which will be built in five years, at the end of the lease on the current campus. Cost of Phase One is $8.3 million dollars, and was financed through a single placement bond with the Hamlin Group, in New York City.

Construction of Phase I includes a new cafeteria with a stage, 20 classrooms, an art room with a kiln for ceramics, a dance/drama room, a music room, a resource room, administrative offices and a warming kitchen. Phase II will include a full scale gymnasium, a second two story wing of classrooms, and a library/media room. The plans do not currently include a full playground, but hopes are that some dollars will be able to be set aside for this project in the next couple of years. Many thanks to the GVA Building Corporation President, Chris Coble, and member Troy Williams, as well as the leadership of Kirk Loadman-Copeland whose vision and dedication was instrumental in getting this project off the ground.

Many are curious about which building their students will attend. It should be noted, students will not move between buildings during the day. All first through eighth grade students will begin in the current building on the first day of classes, August 17th, with the kindergartners beginning on August 24th. Students in grades 3-8 will move to the new building on August 24th, the completion date, making room for the incoming kindergartners. Some of the third and fourth graders may stay in the current building, depending on enrollment patterns and space allocations. Both the current and new building will house approximately 480 students, with the French program growing to multiple sections. The delayed opening is due to the very tight construction schedule. We recognize that the need to move students after one week is disruptive, but know that our older students can work together to make the transition go smoothly.
